The guard position is a characteristic technique of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a position in which you are in bottom, but can use both hands and feet skillfully to fight an opponent who is in top position at an even level. There are two main guard positions, the closed guard and the open guard. The open guard is further divided into a number of derivative positions. Techniques from the guard position consist of three elements: submissions, sweeps, and defenses. In this lesson, you will learn the basic techniques surrounding submissions and sweeps.
