This lesson concentrates on sweeps from the open guard. If your opponent attempts to transition to a standing posture, it is important to change from the closed guard to the open guard. If you correctly create the open guard form before your opponent does, you can prevent him from passing your guard and can apply a forward or backward sweep. The overhead sweep teaches you the important principle of jiu-jitsu, using the shifting of your opponent's center of gravity.
