Lesson 9 Standing Part 1

1. Break fall (backward and forward)

Standing techniques in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are for transitioning to the ground fight. The goal is not to inflict damage by using throwing techniques. In this lesson you will first learn how to do break falls before learning takedown techniques. In order to practice effectively, it is necessary to learn proper break fall forms so that you can mitigate damage even if you are knocked to the mat by your opponent. Then you will learn basic takedown techniques.
